Wife of Brightberry Gentry.

Although further research is needed to confirm this, it is believed Cynthia was a daughter of Bartlett and Elizabeth Timberlake Gentry. Cynthia was born in about 1795 in Virginia (see 1850, 1860 and 1870 Census records citing Virginia as her place of birth). Bartlett Gentry's family lived in Albemarle County, Virginia, moved to Madison County, Kentucky and later, they moved to Missouri.

In 1821 Cynthia married Charles Moran in Madison County, Kentucky. After he died, she married Brightberry Gentry. The bond date for the marriage was 12 Oct 1832 in Madison County, Kentucky showing the marriage of Cynthia Moran to Brightberry Gentry (see attached photos). Richard Gentry was noted as the bondsman. (Madison County Kentucky Marriage Records Vol. II , 1823-1851 Compiled by Bill and Kathy Vockery, 1993.). Cynthia was about 37 years old when she married Brightberry Gentry.

On 8 November 1832, Cynthia and Brightberry signed a marriage contract listed in Book U, page 431 for Real Estate Conveyances, Madison County, Kentucky Courthouse. The document states, "Know all men by these presents that we Brightberry Gentry and Synthia Gentry late Synthia Moran both of the County of Madison and state of Kentucky have joined together in the wholy state of matrimony and both of us having children by our first wife and husband have thought proper to make a marriage contract to this effect. It is agreed to and by us that the property of either belong or go to our respective children which we had before marriage and said property is vested in Richard Gentry in trust to that end. The following is a list of property owned by said Synthia Moran. One sorrel mare with a bay colt one black cow and calf Three beds with good furniture one bureau some cupboard ware and variety of cooking untensils and fifty one dollars by cash note on Jesse Stephenson. All which property the said Synthia's children are to have at the death of either of us but not to be entitled to any property owned by said Gentry previous to our marriage. In witness where of we have hereunto set our hands and seals this 8th of November 1832. Brightberry Gentry

In the 1850 US Federal Census for District 1, Madison, Kentucky, Cynthia (55 years) and Brightberry (65 years) are listed with 3 children, William (17 years), Nancy (13 years), and Martha (11 years).

Cynthia's husband, Brightberry Gentry died 28 Jan 1858 in Madison County, Kentucky. (Kentucky Death Records, List of deaths in Madison County for the year 1858.). In his will, he named Cynthia as executor.

In the 1860 US Federal Census for Division 1, (Speedwell) Madison, Kentucky, Cynthia (age 70 years) is listed as the head of the household and living with other Gentry family members aged 30 years and younger. Note: Speedwell is located in eastern Madison County, Kentucky around the area where Speedwell Road intersects with Crooksville Road (499).

In the 1870 US Federal Census for Yates, (Speedwell) Madison, Kentucky, Cynthia is listed as 77 years old and the head of a household with other family members with the last name of Gentry. Those family member ranged in age from 2 to 41 years.

Cynthia died sometime after the 1870 census.
