BUICKNELL, UTAH-Dorothy Florence Glines Garrett of Bicknell, Utah and formerly of Lemon Heights, CA, returned to Heaven on July 14, 2008 surrounded by her family at Sevier Valley Medical Center, following a lifetime of love, service, courage and bravery in fighting illnesses, including Cancer and multiple Strokes.
She was born in Garland, Utah, together with her twin, Lawrence Glines on November 22, 1924 to Roscoe Bassett Glines (who died four months before the twins' birth) and Florence Stevens Glines. She grew up in Ogden, Utah. She married Kenneth Roy Garrett on June 29, 1951 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. Together they raised four children. Dotti attended Ogden High School where she was elected Vice President of the Studentbody and she was always very proud of that. She also attended Weber State University, University of Utah and University of California at Berkeley, majoring in English and Drama. Dotti was a faithful servant of the Lord, sharing her testimony openly and fervently to all, even the "Maytag Man". When Kenneth was ordained Bishop of Tustin III Ward, Dotti supported him tirelessly as a "Bishop's Wife". Dotti also served in the Relief Society, Sunday School and Primary programs. Dotti was proud to be an AMERICAN! She supported the political process by endlessly campaigning for her candidate and her cause. She sat on the boards of countless party foundations and councils, and as President of the Ivy Baker Priest Forum. She and Kenneth enjoyed the theatre and arts, supporting the Performing Arts Foundation in Orange County, CA and a multitude of philanthropic organizations. As if Dotti had not accomplished enough, at the age of 72, she and Ken undertook the development of the Hidden Falls Resort in Torrey, Utah, where their family had enjoyed ranching for decades. Dotti planned, designed and oversaw every aspect and detail of the laborious process of constructing, staffing and managing the Resort. Every guest was important to Dotti because every person was important to Dotti. She made it her business to connect with everyone she came into contact with. She taught her children and others to go out of their way to greet a stranger, give a compliment and do something nice that is not expected. And, that she did even while battling the adversities of illness and afflictions. Terrorists changed Dotti's world on 9-11-2001. No longer did foreign tourists come to the Resort and despite every effort of money, time and determination, the Resort fell victim of the 9-11 fallout and was lost. A week after the doors were closed, Dotti suffered the first in a series of debilitating strokes. Life as she knew it was never the same again. Despite this adversity Dotti remained positive and upbeat, praying for resolution and relying heavily on her faith in the power of prayer.
Dotti is survived by her husband, Kenneth; children: David (fiancee, Teresa) Garrett, Sharing (Mark) Anderson, Kelly (Becky) Garrett, and Elena (Todd) Seal, and also foster daughters, Arvella (Don) Merrill, and Lucy Tsosie. They have 19 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren; sister, Marjorie (Russell) Madsen. She is greeted in death by her twin brother, Lawrence Roscoe Glines; an older brother, Roscoe Bassett Glines; and a sister, Ellen Glines Michaelson.
