Funeral services for Denton Murray Garrett of Carrollton will be at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 29, at Poplar Creek Nations Baptist Church near Poplar Creek. Burial will follow in the church cemetery, with military honors at graveside. Rev. Ben Hill will officiate the services.
A visitation will be held on Saturday at the church from1:00 p.m. until service time.
Mr. Garrett died at Shelby Baptist Medical Center in Alabaster, Alabama, on Wednesday, October 26. He was 90 years old.
Mr. Garrett was a retired automobile mechanic and a member of Glendale Baptist Church in Greenville. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a member of Merrill's Marauders. He was preceded in death by his wife of 67 years, Susie Hudson Garrett; his parents, Albert M. and Hattie Crossley Garrett; sons, Baby Garrett and Dennis Garrett; daughter-in-law, Lynda Garrett; three sisters; and four brothers.
Survivors include his daughter, Patsy A. Garrett and her husband, Richard, of Maylene, AL; sons, Jimmy Garrett and his wife, Kathy, of Carrollton and Tommy Garrett and his wife, Jimmie Nell, of Oxford; sister, Evelyn Johnson of Bethany, LA; twelve grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; three nieces; and one nephew.
Pallbearers will be Richard Garrett, Rod Garrett, Tom Garrett, Jim Garrett, Gerry Logan, and Logan Lott.
