Death of Mrs. Sam Allen.

It was the greatest shock this morning that the news of the death of Mrs. Bessie Garrett Allen, the beloved wife of Mr. Sam Allen, was learned, few knowing of her illness. Mrs. Allen had not been well for several weeks, but her condition was not critical until yesterday, and though physicians did all in their power to save the young life, death as a relieving angel from pain and suffering, bore her spirit to the eternal shore, the end coming at 1:30 this morning.

Mrs. Allen was a beautiful Christian character, a consecrated member of the Methodist church, and a devoted and conscientious worker in the Sunday School, never failing to greet the little tots of the primary grades, unless prevented by illness. The little ones loved her and her passing to a heavenly home, though glory to her, will leave many a little aching heart.

Mrs. Allen was the daughter of Mr. Franklin Garrett, who was a prominent attorney of Monroe, and Miss Agnes Matilda Bond. Besides the bereaved husband and little daughter, Martha Agnes, who are left to grieve for her, she leaves a sister, Mrs. Dr. Cowie of Culpepper, Va., three brothers, Mr. Warren Garrett of Monroe, Mr. Frank Garrett, now in Pittsburgh, Pa., and Mr. David Garrett of Monroe, and her step-mother Mrs. Leila Garrett of this city.

No arrangements have been made for the funeral as the distant brother and sister are awaited to be heard from.

The funeral of Mrs. Sam Allen occurred this afternoon, as a wire from her sister, Mrs. Dr. Cowie, of Culpepper, Va., stated it would be impossible for her to come to Monroe and her brother, Mr. Frank Garrett, will not reach here before Thursday. The services will beheld this afternoon, the body to be placed in the vault at the cemetery to be interred after the arrival of Mr. Garrett.
