Julian Giltner Garrett, 87, of Bedford, Ky., died Thursday, June 30, 2011, at Norton Hospital in Louisville, Ky.
He was born Jan. 2, 1924, in Carroll County, Ky., the son of William and Georgie Mills Garrett. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was awarded two Purple Hearts and a Bronze Star. He was a member of Hopewell Methodist Church and Mount Pleasant Methodist Church. He often spent his spare time under the hood of his vehicles or honing his carpentry skills. He also enjoyed playing his favorite music on his harmonica and talking about his military days.
He is survived by his wife, Marjorie Garrett; five daughters, Tanyia Callis, Jackie Callis and Genell Adler, all of Bedford, Ky., Elaine Helton of Madison and Melinda Garrett of Milton, Ky.; two sisters, Nancy Harmon and Sue Beverly, both of Bedford, Ky.; one brother, Billy Garrett of Shelbyville; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Evelyn Stewart; one grandchild; and one great-grandchild.
The funeral was at Ransdell Funeral Home in Bedford, Ky. Burial was in Mount Carmel Cemetery in Milton, Ky. Military honors were graveside by Jefferson Post 9 of the American Legion.
