Elizabeth Mountjoy Garrard, born: March 6, 1783, in Stafford County, VA and died in Houston, TX in June, 1843. She was the daughter of the second governor of Kentucky, James Garrard and his wife Elizabeth Mountjoy Garrard. She married James Allen Brooks (a native of Pennsylvania) on May 9, 1810. Soon thereafter, Mr. & Mrs. Brooks moved to New Orleans, where he participated in the battle of New Orleans. At a young age, Mr. Brooks had been involved in mercantile pursuits and moved to Bordeaux, France where he witnessed many events now famous in world history, while France was under the control of Napoleon.
