Wanda Jo Boehm
1928 - 2013

Jo Boehm passed away peacefully at age 85 at her home on April 9th from adenocarcinoma lung cancer. Wanda "Jo" Garner was born at home February 8, 1928 to Robert Lee Garner and Eula Ada Robinson Garner in Slow Fork, Arkansas. She was the middle sibling of five. Jo and her family moved to Carlsbad, New Mexico in 1937 for two years and then settled in Junction City, Oregon.

She graduated early in January 1946 from Junction City High School and in June 1946 married Ernest "Dutch" Guy Leaton. She worked in a variety of jobs over the years; picking various fruits, vegetables, raking nuts and picking cotton. Jo worked in many restaurants in the Eugene area including Snappy Service. She also carried hod for Dutch in his brick mason business. One of her proudest accomplishments was receiving her Tax Consultant Certification at the age of 41. She thoroughly enjoyed working with her clients over the following 15 years.

Jo moved to Lewistown, Montana in 1954 and resided there for 5 years. After her divorce, she moved back to the Eugene area. She met and married Robert "Bob" Boehm in 1961 and moved to her current home of 53 years.

Jo was the mother of two children; Dr. Michael G. Leaton (Tracy) of Carmel, CA and Marcella K. Schlegel (Michael) of Novato, CA. She also had a step-son, Robert A. Boehm (Sharon) of Springfield, OR.

Jo loved to garden and would plant and weed from dawn to dusk. She enjoyed travel; her favorite travel destinations were the Oregon Coast, Sisters, and a road trip to pretty much anywhere. She was able to experience many cultures and had fond memories of her African Safari that took her through 8 countries. She dressed in fabulous hats to attend Red Hat Club luncheons, hardly ever won at Bunco night and was proud to strut at the Country Club Friendship events. She was considered a fun-loving friend by many and a real "go-getter."

She is survived by her children, 9 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, dozens of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, and siblings: Madeline Brinkman, Frankie Lowry, Charles Garner, Betty White, and Glendon Garner.

Services will be held at 11:00am at Lane Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home on Monday, April 15th. A viewing will be held on Sunday, April 14th from 12:00-4:00pm at the funeral home. Ladies, please don your favorite hat in her memory.

Jo's smile, vim and vigor will be missed sorely by her family and friends.
