ADOLPH F. GARMS DEAD
President of Des Plaines Ins. Co. Succumbs after Long Illness
Mr. Adolph F. Garms died at his home in Des Plaines Monday evening after an illness of several months duration. He had not been able to leave his bed since February. Heart and stomach trouble were the direct cause of his death. The funeral was held Wednesday afternoon at the Des Plaines Lutheran church, Rev. Pieper officiating. Burial was in the family lot at Palatine, the funeral party coming by auto.
Mr. Garms was born in Hanover, Germany, Aug. 17, 1843. He came to America when a boy, settling in Palatine. He married Miss Minnie Beaman and they took up housekeeping in the old Downing place on Plum Grove Avenue. Six children were born to them. William was killed in the train wreck at Palatine in 1887. Those surviving are Herman, of Palatine, Louis, of Mayville, Wis., Mrs. Elizabeth Wicke, Mrs. Minnie Hinrichs, and Fred of Des Plaines. Mr. Garms was a resident of Palatine until 8 years ago, when he moved to Des Plaines so as to be near his daughter. He was president of the Des Plaines Insurance Company at the time of his death. Besides a wife and five children, he leaves 8 grandchildren and a brother, George, of Jefferson Park.
