Henry Thomas "Koot" GarlandOn Friday, February 6, 2015, God quietly called his son home to his heavenly rest. Henry Thomas "Koot" Garland was born in Campbell County on December 9, 1948 to the late Matt Frank and Kathleen Garland.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Matt Frank Garland, Jr., Donald Wayne Garland and Harold Lee Garland; a sister, Ethel Coleman; a son Anthony Garland; and a grandchild, Marina Cabell.Henry was the husband of Bernadine Lewis Garland of Jasper, Texas. He dedicated his life serving in the U.S. Army, where he retired after 23 years as SGM.He leaves to celebrate his life and final journey wife, Bernadine Lewis Garland; five sons, Henry (Tony) Garland, Henry Cabell, Jonathan Garland, Matt Frank Garland and Shea Lamont Garland; a daughter, Tiffany Garland; 16 grandchildren; one great grandchild; nine sister-in-laws; six brother-in-laws; and a host of other relatives and friends.A funeral service will be conducted 2 pm, Wednesday, February 18, 2015, at Pleasant Valley Baptist Church with Bishop Frank Morris eulogizing. Interment will be held in the Megginson Family Cemetery. Military Rites will be provided by American Legion Post 16. His remains will be open to the public one hour prior to the service at the church. The cortege will assemble at 5305 Pleasant Valley Road.
