Miriam was born on September 17, 1926, in Kidron, Ohio, to the late Harvey and Alta (Miller) Gardner and graduated from Dalton High School, Class of 1944. She married James W. Antill on January 25, 1947, in Wooster. James died on April 15, 2003.
She previously worked for McCombs Market and Wilson's Greenhouse in Orrville, and most recently for the City of Orrville Casiers Office before her retirement.
Miriam was a member of the Christ United Church of Christ in Orrville. She enjoyed poetry, crafts, playing keyboard, and spending time with family and friends. She was a seamstress who made uniforms for her children's marching band, and a homemaker, canning the fruits and vegetables she raised in the family garden.
Surviving are five daughters, Lois (Ron) Dessecker, Diana (Dewey) Moser, Kathy Handwerk, Nancy (Dave) Handwerk, and Gloria Elliott, all of Orrville; five grandchildren, Marc (Suzanne) Zody of Columbus, Tracie (Michael Vlack) Zody of Columbus, Adam (Lacey) Handwerk of Orrville, Cliffton (Crystal) Handwerk of Orrville, and Jayson Lindsey of San Francisco, CA; great grandchildren, Tait and Sarah Zody, and Taden, Zyah, Ayla, Carter, Camden, and Cole Handwerk; a brother, Ralph Gardner of MI; a sister, Ruth Schlabach of Walnut Creek; and many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a brother, John Howard Gardner; and sisters, Esther Oetzel, Marie Abel, Margaret Lynn, Bessie Towles, and Alice Hahn.
Memorial services will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, March 3, 2016, at Auble Funeral Home, 512 East Oak Street, Orrville, with Rev. Randall L. Gehres officiating. Burial of ashes will take place at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Rittman at a later date.
