Darrell Lynn (Lynn D.) Gardner, 74, of Irwin, Idaho passed away December 17, 2013 at his home, after a short battle with lung cancer, surrounded by his loving wife and family.

The family would like to thank Alli, of One Source Hospice, for the care she gave Lynn.

Lynn was born January 29, 1939, the third child of six, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Raymond Gardner and Ruby Simmons Gardner. He grew up in Idaho Falls and attended schools there. Lynn and Pat bought property in Irwin in 1994 and moved there in 1996.

Lynn served in the U. S. Army from January 1956 to January 1959.

While on leave in 1957, on New Years Eve, he met the love of his life, Patricia Ann Young on a blind date and the next day he returned to duty stationed in Hawaii. They corresponded for over a year and then lost touch. When he was honorably discharged January 1959, he looked up his love and on September 25, 1959, they were married in Idaho Falls. To their union were born three wonderful sons, Kevin Lynn, Darren Ray and Bret Stanley.

Lynn worked for Conrad & Bishoff for 10 years, H-K Contractors for 10 years and then owned his own business, Gardner Builders & Home Improvements, until his retirement in 2009.

He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

He loved the outdoors and the mountains where he enjoyed camping, fishing, golfing, snowmobiling, three wheeling and four wheeling, dancing with his wife and he most of all dearly loved his family and spending special time with them. He adored all of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He treasured every moment he spent with them.

Lynn is survived by his sweetheart and best friend, Patricia Ann, of Irwin, ID; sons: Kevin (Pam), Farmersville, TX; Darren (Tammy), Idaho Falls, and Bret (Jeanine), South Jordan, UT; brother, Keith (Nelda), Idaho Falls; sister, Jeannene (Dave) Johnson, Holladay, UT; 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, two brothers, Gary and Glenn Gardner, and one sister, LaRae Hathaway.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, December 21, 2013, at Wood Funeral Home East Side, 963 South Ammon Road. The family will meet with friends from 9:30-10:45 a.m. prior to services. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery.
