Harriett Ann BENNETT was born in Charleston, South Carolina, to
• Christopher G. BENNETT (born about 1808 in St. Lukes Parish, Beaufort District, South Carolina, died after 1860 when he was a printer in Savannah) &
Thurza Ann BRANTLEY (born 1810-1815 in Chatham County, Georgia, married 1832, died 1865).

Harriett was the wife and widow, first of
Solomon HINDLEY Jr. (HINELY, 1825-1878, funeral conducted from St. Johns Church, Savannah, an Epicopal congregation) of Effingham County, and then of
• Samuel C. GARDNER of Pennsylvania, whom she married at St. Johns Church, Savannah, in 1882.
Harriett's only child, William E. HINDLEY (1866-1907), also predeceased her.

In June of 1870, Sol HINDLEY, an Engine Builder, age 45 years, & Henrietta, 30, and their son, William E., 4, were living in Savannah, with two boarders surnamed BURNETT from South Carolina and a domestic servant.

In June of 1880, Harriet HINELY, age 40, was a widow keeping a boarding house at 16 Gordon Street in Savannah. Her boarders included a Millwright and five men who worked for the railroad - of those five, one was her nephew, Newton PEVEY, age 19 (the son of Solomon's sister, Frances HINELY PEVY ABBOT 1840-1910). Also in her household was her brother James BENNETT, a policeman age 33, his wife Elizabeth, 34, their son, James, 8, and Harriet's son, William HINELY, 13, who worked as a "Cash Boy in Dry Goods Store."

In the Savannah City Directory for 1882, Harriet A. HINDLEY's boarding house at 16 Gordon Street included eight boarders, all of whom worked for the railroad (her brother had moved to 208 Wayne Street). In that year, Harriet remarried.

In June of 1900, Henrietta GARDNER, age 55, was a midwife, living at 540 Gordon Street, East, in Savannah. Her household included her second husband,
• Samuel C. GARDNER Sr., a Carpenter, age 61, his nephew,
• Samuel Jr., 11, who was in school, her son,
• William E., a Painter in Car Shops, 33, her daughter-in-law,
• Charlotte [MYERS], 24, and her grandsons,
• Raymond, 5, and
• Eugene, 2. All of her family was enumerated with the surname GARDNER.

In 1904, Harriett was widowed again; Samuel C. GARDNER, age 71, died and was buried in Laurel Grove Cemetery in the lot of his daughter Naomi Margaret GARDNER CONNERS. In 1907, Harriett lost her only child, William E. HINDLEY.

By April of 1910, Harriett GARDNER, a widowed nurse for a private family, age 71, headed a household at 540 Gordon Street, Savannah, which included her widowed daughter-in-law, Charlotte [MYERS], owner of a milk dairy, 35, and the three grandsons, Raymond, 16, Eugene, 13, and Zern W. H., 8, and three boarders, including Samuel C. GARDNER, a Machinist for automobiles, 21, and Henry D. MEYERS, a Bookkeeper, 24 [perhaps a relative of Charlotte's].

In 1912, at the Lutheran Church of the Ascension in Savannah, Harriett's widowed daughter-in-law, Charlotte MYERS HINDLEY, "Lottie," married secondly to Herman Fred KLUG (1869-1918, buried at Bonaventure).

Abstract from Laurel Grove Cemetery Keepers Book: Mrs. Harriet A. GARDNER died the 2nd of September, 1916, and was buried the following day in Lot 278. She was a native of Georgia, aged 77 years, and a resident of 417 East Jones Street.
