Mary Alice was known as Molly Gardner. She was the daughter of John W. and Nancy Catherine (Ballenger) Tate who are buried in the South Union Cemetery in Monroe Co. Her maternal grandparents John and Nancy Catherine (Weiss) Ballenger were from Bavaria and buried in the Ketcham Cemetery in Monroe Co. IN. She married Isaac Henry Gardner whom she is buried next to. Her first child Iona was killed by falling into a caldron of boiling water. She had three more children, Alton (who is buried with his wife in the Valhalia Cemetery in Bloomington), Roy and Sadie.
