G. Clinton was the son of George C. Gardner Sr. and Mary Frances "Fanny" Broadhead. He married Sarah Elizabeth Sterling on 7 Nov. 1908 in Trenton, Mercer Co., NJ.

Note: His grave marker gives his birth year as 1873; however, his birth date is documented as 5 Mar. 1874.
