David Gardiner, 27, Dies of Auto Accident Injuries
David L. Gardiner, 27, 3660 53rd Ave. N, died Thursday (May 20, 1970 (sic)) of injuries received in an accidnet March 27.
Gardiner suffered a chest hemorrahge Thursday as a result of the accident, forcing blood to an existing stomach ulcer that caused his death, said Dr. John Shinner, county medical examiner.
He was a carpenter. Mr. Gardiner was born in East Weymouth, Mass., and came to this area five years ago from Bedforth, Mass.
Denita Jo Ferguson, 18, 4048 42nd Ave. N, was killed in the accident. Her body was found under six feet of dirt, apparently loosened by the car's impatct.
James Oliver Jr., 26, 6950 33rd St. N, is still in critical condition at Bayfront Medical Center.
The Florida Highway Patrol estimated that the car was traveling almost 60 m.p.h. when it failed to negotiate a curve on 49th Street N and crashed through construction barriers into a ditch. The speed limit in the area, during construction, was 20 m.p.h.
Gardiner is survived by his wife Brenda; two sons, David L. Jr., and Edward H., both of Bedford; a stepson, Mark L., of St. Petersburg; a daughter, Sandra L. or St. Petersburg; a brother, Richard, of Bedford; and his mother, Mrs. Irene Thyren, of St. Petersburg.
