Lucy Blea, age 78, a long-time resident of Albuquerque, passed away on August 6, 2007.
Lucy is survived by her children, James Blea and his wife, Betty of Albuquerque, Brenda Blea-Edeskuty and her husband, Fred of Jemez Mountains, Mark Blea of Albuquerque and Gary Blea of Albuquerque, her grandchildren, Michael Blea, Felisha Blea, Shannon Blea, Sean Blea and Katelynn Blea, her sisters, Frances Sánchez and Cecilia Sena, her brothers, Willie García and Ed García, many loving nieces and nephews and cherished friends.
A Memorial will be held on Thursday, August 9, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at French Mortuary Westside Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday, August 10, 2007 at 10:00 a.m. at San Felipe de Neri Catholic Church. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Michael Blea, Gary Blea, Fred Edeskuty, Rick Durán, Ken Sánchez and Frank Chávez. Honorary Pallbearers will be Sean Blea, Felisha Blea, Shannon Blea and Katelynn Blea. Friends may choose flowers or memorial contributions may be made to the Patriotic Quilt Project, which was very special to Lucy. The project involves the making of quilts in Red, White and Blue fabric by the Jemez Bear Paw Quilters, a small group to which Lucy's daughter is a member. The quilts are presented to New Mexico families that have lost soldiers in the Middle East at the Memorial Day and Veteran's Day Ceremonies held at the Veterans Memorial Park in Albuquerque. Contributions will be used to purchase fabric in Patriotic colors for the quilts. Contributions can be sent to Brenda Blea-Edeskuty, 171 Winter Road, Jemez Springs, NM 87025.
