Lois (Garber) Byler, 88, New Paris, died 2:28 a.m. Thursday, October 15, 2015 at IU Health Goshen Hospital.

She was born Feb. 12, 1927 in Low Point, Ill. to Joe & Frieda (Cordes) Garber.

She married Glen L. Byler, Aug. 4, 1946 in Metamora, Ill. and he died April 20, 1999.

Surviving is a daughter, Tracy Ann Byler of New Paris.

Preceding her in death are her parents, husband, Glen, daughter, Linda Jean Byler on Sept. 24, 1971, brother, Arthur Garber and a sister, Fae Steffen.

Lois was a homemaker and a member of the College Mennonite Church. She was baptized in 1938 at Metamora Mennonite Church, Metamora, Ill.; 51 year member of the New Paris Extension Homemaker Club, where she held all office positions; 1974 Elkhart County Extension Homemaker of the Year Award; 1983-1984 President of Elkhart County Extension Homemakers. At Goshen General Hospital, joined Red Cross Gray Lady Service in October of 1965, was chairman in 1987 and 1988; President of Goshen Hospital Auxiliary Board from January 1989 to July 1991; 1985 Elkhart County Farm Bureau Farm Wife of the Year; 1985-1995 Secretary-Treasurer Elkhart County Farm Bureau; 1997 Elkhart County Fair Board Home and Family Art's Director; 2000 Goshen Noon Kiwanis Diakonia Service Award and a member of the Ag Society for a number of years.
