GERMAINE CECILE CARNEY

Germaine Carney quietly passed away in Royal Inland Hospital on the evening of Tuesday, August 12, 2008. Germaine was born to August Garand and Roseanne Fortier Garand on January 9, 1914 in Stortoaks, Sask. They lived in Ponteix, Sask. before moving to Dunrea, Manitoba where she grew up with her 14 brothers and sisters and eventually married young Dan Carney. Their children were born in Dunrea. They moved to St. James in Winnipeg in 1939; during the war years- Dan worked in the Aircraft Industry and their home was always filled with love and laughter and brothers and sisters home on leave. They moved to Kamloops in 1965- Germaine`s brother Roland lived here and they loved the weather.
Gerry was an awesome cook, an exceptional seemstress,knitter and crocheter. Her garden was the envy of Westsyde and Kamloops itself. She took up potting and pine basket weaving and played a mean game of crib and bridge. She was a member of the Kamloops Garden Club and also judged garden entries at various clubs and fairs in the district. She was also a member of the St. John Vianney Parish and CWL. She enjoyed curling and lawn bowling and was a Kamloops representative to several Seniors Games Competitions.
Gerry is survived by her daughter Lena(Glenn)Platts of Peachland, BC and their children Janet Platts(Don Brewer)of Whitcourt, AB, Robbie(Rachel)Platts and great grandchildren Daniel and Ellery Platts of Calgary, Karen(Ted)Wilson and Jill of Okatokes, AB. Her daughter Pat(Rudy)Crucil of Sechelt, BC,and their children Catherine of Vancouver, BC and Julia Crucil(Andrew Young)and step children Noah and Zoe of Comox, BC. Her son Richard/Dick(Chris)and their children Sean(Melanie) and great grandchildren Danielle and Logan of Kamloops, BC and Erynn(Christopher Barton) once again of Kamloops, BC. Also survived by her loyal companion of many years, Gordon Atkinson of Kamloops.
Gerry is predeceased by her parents August and Roseanna Garand, her husband Daniel, brothers Ralph,Steve,Roland,Oliver(WWII),and Edmond(Korea)and by sisters Aurora and Helen.
Prayers wll be recited at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2800 block Westsyde Road on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 7:00pm. The Reverend Father Wladyslaw Karciarz, OMI. will celebrate the Mass of Christian Burial on Tuesday, August, 19, 2008 at 10:00am at the church. Lunch and reminiscing at the church after Mass. Interment at a later date.
Gerry enjoyed her time at Berwick on the Park and the family would like to thank the staff for their kind care. Thanks also to the staff on 3 South who looked after Gerry on her first ever hospital stay and to Lora, the replacement co-coordinator.
