Winston-Salem – Doris Ann Gant Arrington, 81, passed away quietly at Clemmons Village II on March 17, 2014, surrounded by her family. Ms. Arrington was born December 16, 1932. She was the daughter of Emma Grace Gant York and First Wesley York. She graduated from Hanes High School and received an Associate's Degree in Accounting from Wake Forest University. She retired from the Winston-Salem Journal after 20 years of service as Benefits Manager. In her lifetime, she was fortunate enough to have traveled throughout Europe and the Caribbean. Her personal favorite was the Swiss Alps. She was an avid bowler and traveled all over the country to compete in tournament play.
The most precious things in her life were family and friends. She was a very compassionate and caring person that always tried to help others. She was a wonderful and loving mother that always put her family first. She truly will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.
Ms. Arrington was preceded in death by her parents, a sister (Tommie Lou Ledford) and an infant son. Surviving to cherish her memory are one daughter, Melinda Arrington Lane (Randy); three sons, Tommy Gray Arrington (Cathy), Danny Ray Arrington, and Gregory Jay Arrington; eight grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
A graveside service honoring her life will be held at 2:00 PM Thursday, March 20, 2014, at Crestview Memorial Park, 6850 University Parkway, Rural Hall, NC with Chaplain Dan Swan officiating. Hayworth-Miller Funeral Home of Lewisville, NC will be handling the funeral arrangements. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to your local Hospice or Alzheimer's Association.
