L.C. "Cletus" Gannon, 90
L.C. "Cletus" Gannon, 90, of 3900 S. Terry Ave., formerly of Dell Rapids, died Saturday, June 15, 1996, at McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.
Cletus Gannon was born on Aug. 10, 1905, at Larchwood, Iowa, the son of John and Julia Gannon. As a child, he moved with his parents to Dell Rapids, where he grew up and attended school. Cletus then moved to Milbank with his family.
Cletus married Delia Day on Aug. 3, 1925, in Montevideo, Minn. They made their home in Milbank until they moved to Dell Rapids in 1930. They farmed in the Dell Rapids area until 1953. Cletus then worked at the Dell Rapids coop Elevator until he retired. Mrs. Gannon died in 1992. Cletus moved to the Sunnycrest Retirement Center in Sioux Fall in 1994
Cletus had been a member of the St. Mary Catholic Church in Dell Rapids for many years.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild, one great-grandchild, one son-in-law and two sisters.
Grateful for having shared his life are his six sons, Lawrence and his wife, Isabelle of Dell Rapids, Eugene and his wife, Evelyn of Johnston, Iowa, Donald and his wife, Alice of Hot Springs, Richard and his wife, Rosalie of Dell Rapids, George and his wife, Diane of Sioux Falls and Gerald of Sioux Falls; his daughter, Mrs. Clayton (Donna Marie) Edman of Sioux Falls; his 28 grandchildren, 51 great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren; his two brothers: Charles Gannon of Glen Ellyn, Ill., and Liguori Gannon of Dell Rapids.
Funeral Mass was held on Tuesday, June 18, 1996, at St. Mary Catholic Church, Dell Rapids, with Father Hal Barber as the celebrant. Interment was at St. Mary Cemetery.
There was a Christian Wake service on Monday evening at 7:30 p.m. at the Kahler Funeral Home, Dell Rapids. Casketbearers were Larry, Rod, Tom, Patrick, Dan and Gary Gannon. Honorary Casketbearers were Darrell Donaldson, Lorraine Overvaag, Dale Huewe, Terry, Randy, Steve, Paul, Brad, Michael, Brian and Jon Gannon.
