David was born in Anderson Co, TX to Nathaniel William and Emma Raines Gammage. His parents are also buried in Garden of Memories. He lived in Elkhart, TX for most of his life. He was employed by Knox Glass Company and Yellow Cab Company before retiring. At one time, he was a naval yard worker. He served in the infantry during World War I. He is buried beside his brother, Paxton Gammage. He was survived by a son, Gordon David Gammage of Martinez, CA; three granddaughters, Val, Pam and Tam Gammage, all of Martinez, CA; a sister, Mrs. Mary Edna Bowdoin of Elkhart; four brothers, C. C. "Lum" Gammage of Kennard, Ivan Middleton Gammage, Abb N. Gammage and Paxton Gammage, all of Elkhart.
His obituary appeared in the Palestine (TX) Herald-Press, Monday, 9 August 1965.
