"Vina" as she was fondly known to her family and friends retired from New Mexico State University as a librarian. She was a communicant at Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, and a member of the VFW Post 3242 Ladies Auxiliary and T.O.P.S.
Survivors include her husband, Joe A. Duran of the family home; two sons, Aaron R. Duran and his daughter, Danica of Las Cruces, Gavin J. Duran and his son, G.J. Duran and wife Tenisha and their daughter, Haley all of Mesa, Arizona; a daughter, Daryn Widmer of Las Cruces; two brothers, Victor L. Gamboa of Colton, California, Ruben Gamboa of Mesilla; two sisters, Alicia G. Diaz also of Mesilla, Patricia Martinez and husband Dan of El Paso, Texas. Other survivors include numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry L. Gamboa and a sister, Lucy Gamboa.
Visitation for Vina will begin at 6pm Thursday August 13, 2009 in Baca's Chapel of Prayer, 300 E. Boutz Road where the Prayer Vigil is scheduled for 7pm. Family and friends will join together to celebrate the memorial mass at 2pm on Friday August 14, 2009 in Immaculate Heart of Mary Cathedral, 1240 S. Espina with Reverend Sean Garrity officiating. Inurnment of cremains will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
