George Galusha Dies at Age 94
George Galusha, a life-long resident of Shaftsbury and a direct descendant of former Vermont Gov. Jonas Galusha, died yesterday at a Bennington nursing home at the age of 94. Among his survivors are three great-great-great grandchildren.
Friends described Mr. Galusha as "a real old-timer with a sense of humor." Throughout his life he maintained an interest in horses and, in his later years, gardening. He was known for his frequent visits to his neighbors and friends.
Mr. Galusha received his education in the Shaftsbury schools and North Bennington High School. Following graduation from high school he worked with his father on their farm - now known as the Poly Meadows farm - in Shaftsbury Center.
In 1887, he married the former Edith L. Frisbie of North Bennington. They continued to live on the family homestead until 1927 when the property was sold to a Mrs. Bryce, a daughter of Admiral George Dewey of U.S. naval fame.
The couple then lived in a home in Shaftsbury Center which Mr. Galusha built. Mrs. Galusha died in 1952, after which he made his home in Shaftsbury Center with his daughter, Mrs. Herbert Daniels.
Mr. Galusha was a member and deacon of the Center Shaftsbury Baptist Church.
He is survived by three daughters-Mrs. Janet Russell of Waterbury and Mrs. Luella McLean and Mrs. Herbert Daniel of Shaftsbury - 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 7 great-great grandchildren, 3 great-great-great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
