HOLYOKE - Joanne E. (Gallop) Dempsey, 72, of Holyoke, died Monday May 21, 2012 at Holyoke Medical Center. Joanne was born in Hartford, CT, daughter of the late Edward and Joanne (Krajewski) Gallop and was educated in the Connecticut School System. She was a veteran of the United States Air Force and later retired from the Avery Dennison Co. where she worked in the Graphic Art Department for over 31 years. Joanne was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. She was a member and leader of the Boy Scouts of America for over 25 years, where she received many awards, including her Cub Trainer Wood Badge. She was a member of the Order of the Arrow of Boy Scouts of America and Club 15 at Avery Dennison Co. Joanne is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, Benjamin W. Dempsey Sr., her children, Bruce W. Dempsey and his wife Jo Ann of Washington State, Chris E. Dempsey and his wife Debbie of Ludlow, Andrew D. Dempsey and his wife Colleen of CO, Benjamin W. Dempsey II of Westfield and Ila J. Culliton and her husband John of VA. She leaves two brothers, David Gallop of VA, Edwin Gallop of CT and four sisters, Marion Ziomek of RI, Lorraine Meehan of CT, Frances Barillaro of CT, and Ellen Mirante of VT. Joanne leaves seven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brothers, Ronald and Julian Gallop and a sister, Mildred Bycoski. A funeral home service will be held Friday at 1 PM at the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St. Holyoke, MA, burial will follow in the Massachusetts Veterans' Memorial Cemetery in Agawam.
