Genevieve Marie Diaz November 24, 1951 - August 20, 2008
Genevieve Marie Diaz was born to LaLa and John Gallegos on November 24, 1951 in Ogden, Utah. She was adopted by LaLa's sister and husband, Epifania and Max Martinez at the age of one month. Genevieve was raised in Fruita, and married Margarito Diaz. She graduated from Fruita Monument High School in 1970. She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita. Genevieve is survived by her husband, Margarito; sons, Timothy (Pam) Martinez of Grand Junction; Pablo Martinez (Armando Tellez) of Denver; daughter, Connie (Roberto) Martinez of Grand Junction; brothers; Favian (Evelyn) Martinez of Fruita; John Gallegos; sisters-in-law, Donna Martinez of Fruita; Patty Martinez of Fruita; six grandchildren; brothers, Manuel, Tony, Alfonso, Henry, George, Gilbert and Andy Gallegos of Rupert, Idaho; sisters, Rae Archuleta, Rosemary Mort, Delores Martinez, Ana Villafuerte and Lilly Hawk of Rupert, Idaho, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Epifania and Max Martinez, brothers, Pete, Max Jr., Alfonso, Ben, Genaro "Blondie" Martinez, and Mike Gallegos. Genevieve enjoyed playing Bingo, was a big fan of Antonio Aguilar, and especially loved being a mother and grandmother. Genevieve loved and was loved by all. Visitation will be on Sunday from 5 - 7:00 p.m. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Fruita. A Funeral Mass will be held on Monday at 1:00 p.m. at the church. Burial will follow at New Elmwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions can be made to the American Cancer Society, Mesa County Unit, PO Box 3115, Grand Junction, Colorado 81502.
