METHUEN — Donald W. Gallant, 62, of Methuen died unexpectedly Thursday, Sept. 18, 2008.
Don was born in Lawrence and was a lifelong resident of Methuen. He was a 1963 graduate of Tenney High School, Methuen.
Don thoroughly enjoyed his work as a safety specialist for Airgas East of Salem, N.H. He was past. president and former member of the Lawrence Exchange Club and was the Chairman of the Methuen Board of Assessors. He served his community as a member and Treasurer of the Trauma Intervention Program, a member of the Holy Family Guild and an executive board member of The Lawrence Boys' and Girls' Club. He also served for 10 years as a member of the zoning board in Methuen. Many local charities and organizations will surely be at a loss without his organizational efforts within the community.
He was a loving husband and companion to his wife of 39 years Marie A. (L' Italien) Gallant of Methuen. He was a proud father and best friend to his son, Christopher J. Gallant of Methuen and his devoted daughter, Tracy and her husband Scott Swiniarski of North Andover and his adoring granddaughter, Emma. Don was the definition of a family man and thrived in his role as a loving papa to his granddaughter Emma. He made the most of every day and could often be heard asking his family "who's doing better than us?" Don spent this summer, as every summer before, enjoying his family and many friends at what was affectionately known as "Papa's Beach" in Salisbury. He was notorious throughout the Merrimack Valley as the man who enthusiastically would lend a hand or an encouraging word when his support was needed. Being in his company made even a stranger feel comforted as if he were an old friend. The inconceivable loss of this man will be felt in the hearts of his beloved family and countless friends for many years to come.
ARRANGEMENTS: Calling hours will be on Tuesday, Sept. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Charles F. Dewhirst Funeral Home, 80 Broadway, Methuen.
