The NYC birth records show that Mary Lulu Brown was born on 19 January 1875 to Robert & Mary A. (Iles) Brown. Her baptismal record shows that her date of baptism was 6 June 1875 at the Seventh St. United Methodist Church in NYC.

The Familysearch.org records show that Mary Lulu Brown married my grandfather Walter R. Galbraith on 5 Dec. 1901 in the Bronx, New York. My late mother was aware that her father had been married first to a Mary Lulu Brown, who had died due to complications of childbirth and that there had been a son Walter Robert Galbraith, who had died young. According to Mary Lulu's death certificate that's on Ancestry, she died because of "Chronic Pulmonary Intestinal TB." One possible cause of that kind of TB would have been drinking milk from a cow infected with bovine TB. Antibiotics for TB would have been needed to save Mary, but they didn't exist back then. Mary was definitely suffering with this condition. According to NIH, the National Library of Medicine, "typical manifestations are abdominal pain, intestinal swelling, intestinal obstructions, hematochezia, a palpable abdominal mass, fever, weight loss, and night sweats."

And according to Familysearch.org records, the son Walter Robert "Robie" Galbraith was born 27 December 1902 in the Bronx. He died 16 July 1904. I don't have a record for where he's buried, but assume that he was buried in the family plot. Cemetery records are incomplete back that far.

According to the letter written in Nov. of 1903 from her Aunt Lulu Jane (Iles) Howe Galbraith in Schuyler, NE to Mary Lulu (Brown) Galbraith's sister Sadie Brown at 1034 Forest Ave., NYC, Mary went by her middle name "Lulu." The letter confirmed that the baby Walter Robert Galbraith was still living at that time. Was he living with Sadie Brown and her father? Or his father Walter Galbraith? Or were they all living together?

Mary Lulu (Brown) Galbraith's parents Robert Brown and Mary Anna Iles were married 3 January 1872 in Manhattan, New York, according to records at Familysearch.org,

Mary was listed with her widowed father and at least some of her siblings in the 1900 Bronx census. The birth records at Familysearch.org indicate that Mary had siblings:
1. Margaret Henritt Brown b. 27 Nov. 1872 Manhattan, NY.
2. Martha Brown b. 27 July 1876 Manhattan, NY.
3. Sarah (Sadie on 1900 census) Brown b. 21 Nov. 1878 at 22 S. 5th Ave., New York City, NY. Sadie is buried in this cemetery plot, but I was told that she didn't leave anyone behind to see to it that her name was added to the headstone.
4. James Ewart Brown b. 1 July 1881 Manhattan, NY. Memorial #118575778
5. Francis Dean Brown b. 21 Oct. 1883 Manhattan, NY
6. Robert Brown Jr. b. May 1889 according to the 1900 census. His marriage, WWI, and WWII draft records are on Familysearch.org showing that he was born 20 May 1889 NYC. He Married Dorothy Haas, a daughter of John & Dorothy (Rivera) Haas, on 11 Sept. 1912 in the Bronx. His WWI draft card showed that he had a wife and daughter and was working as a shipping clerk at that time. His WWII 1942 draft card showed that he was 52, still married to Dorothy, living at 78 East 236th St. in the Bronx and working at the Texas Co., 135 E. 42nd St. in NY. In 1942 he was still signing his name as Robert Brown Jr. On his marriage record, he listed his father as Robert W. Brown.
