Joyce Ann (Gaither) Belt, age 66, died peacefully on October 26, 2008 at her home in McMinnville, Oregon after a courageous 5-year battle with ovarian cancer.
She was born November 28, 1941 in Harmony County, NC. In 1952, she moved to McMinnville then to Yamhill in 1956. She graduated from Yamhill-Carlton High School in 1959 then attended Oregon State University. She married Gene Belt on September 4, 1959 in McMinnville, OR.
She worked side by side with her husband Gene Belt on Beltview Farms for 25 years. They were later separated. In 1986, she moved to McMinnville and was a real estate broker for 22 years, most recently working at Willamette West. She was a diligent and dedicated realtor and loved working with her clients.
She enjoyed gardening, the beach and being outdoors. She loved animals and enjoyed feeding the deer and squirrels that lived around her home. She loved her family very much and enjoyed traveling throughout North America by helicopter with her longtime companion George Converse. They also enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson throughout Oregon. Most of all, she loved Christmas and decorated her home from top to bottom to create the ultimate Christmas holiday for her family.
Surviving are sons, Steven Belt, McMinnville, OR; Thomas H. Belt, Yamhill, OR; and Eric Converse, La Jolla, CA; daughters, Penny Belt, Carlton, OR and Pamela Belt, Yamhill, OR; brothers, Dan Gaither, Green Valley, AZ; and Jim Gaither, Cincinnati, OH; sister, Dare Gaither, Brevard, NC; step-mother, Addie Gaither, Brevard, NC and her mother, Jessie Morton, and her mother's longtime partner Ed Fuller both of Las Vegas, NV. She was preceded in death by her long-time partner, George Converse, by sister, Gail Cunningham, and father James C. Gaither.
Funeral services will be Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at 11:00 AM at the Chapel of Macy and Son, in McMinnville with Vaughan Palmore officiating. Interment will be at Evergreen Memorial Park, McMinnville. A reception will be held at 1:00 PM at Golden Valley Brew Pub.
