Obituyary - Harold James Gailey, 83, died peacefully on Dec. 14, 2000 at the South Davis Community Hospital. He was born Sept. 10, 1917 in Kaysville, Utah where he lived all of his life. He was the son of Arthur Franklin and Myrtie Bell Strong Gailey. He married Louise Bishop of Bountiful. She preceded him in death three years ago.

Harold lived a full and rewarding life. After attending Davis High School, he graduated from Utah State University, where he was a member of the tennis team. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in England.

After his return, he began working at Barnes Banking Co. where he retired as Executive Vice President. Harold enjoyed his work at the bank immensely, particularly his involvement with all the people he came in contact with. He whistled as he walked to work each morning and came home to eat lunch with his wife daily.

Harold was very active in his community and was a civic leader. He served on the City Council, Davis County School Board, the Council of Aging, and was a member of the Rotary Club. After his retirement, an accomplishment his family was proud of was Harold's written and published account of his great-grandfather, John R. Barnes and the founding of Barnes Bank.

Harold was active in the L.D.S. Church and served as Bishop and Stake High Council. As Bishop, he was known for his kindness to the elderly. He and Louise took several of the ward widows on outings to Salt Lake to the symphony and to the ballet.

Harold enjoyed traveling and traveled extensively with Louise. Harold will be remembered for his great generosity, compassion for others, and his sense of humor.
