Bernice Gadsden Addison was born on October 9, 1937 in Russellville, South Carolina. She was the daughter of the late Luther T. and Louisa Prioleau Gadsden. She departed this life on Sunday, May 13, 2007 at Roper Hospital in Charleston, S.C.

Bernice's early education was acquired in Berkeley County, South Carolina schools. She received her Bachelor of Science degree from South Carolina State College and her Master's Degree in Education from Antioch University in Pennsylvania. Students in both Pennsylvania and South Carolina benefited from her educational training for over three decades. Bernice was honored as Teacher of the Year in the Berkeley County school district for the 1992-93 school year.

Bernice was a dedicated and devoted member of Redeemer Reformed Episcopal Church of Pineville, South Carolina. She was a member of the Pulpit Aid. She was always willing to help in various church activities. Her organizational and leadership skills made her an invaluable member of any group she joined.

Bernice was an active and beloved member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and the St. John's Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star #213.

Bernice had a love for travel - both domestic and foreign. She journeyed to Greece, Paris, London, the Caribbean and numerous other locations in Europe and Canada. Alaska and Hawaii were her favorite two of the many states that she visited.

Bernice loved her family and she displayed that love everyday! Every family member with whom she came in contact felt special and loved. Bernice had a very positive impact on everyone whom she met during her life's journey. One word describes Bernice's life: Love.

Cherishing the memories of Bernice's beautiful life are her husband Ransom Addison, Jr. and son Adrian Addison; stepchildren William and Peggy Finkley; sisters Queen Mobley, Lelia Johnson, Lutha (Ollie) Johnson and Julia Brunson; brother Curtis (Marsha) Gadsden; sisters-in-law Marie Gadsden, Mattie Gethers, Alice Carter, Mildred (Charles) Knox and Vonnie Finkley; brothers-in-law Gyles Addison, Beaufort (Margaret) Addison, Dr. Oliver (Elizabeth) Addison, Rev. James Glisson, and Harold Finkley; several step grandchildren; two very special friends Delores Henry and Ernestine Reed; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
