A Civil War veteran, he enlisted either in Danville, Montour County, or Harrisburg (both reported) August 26, 1864, and mustered into federal service at Harrisburg August 29 as a private with Co. C, 200th Pennsylvania Infantry. He received two "slight" battle wounds to the shoulder and arm, the first at Fort Stedman on March 25, 1865, and the second during the final assault on the Confederate works outside Petersburg, Virginia, on April 2. He honorably discharged with his company May 30, 1865.
On his ultimate day of life, went to his cellar of his Williamsport boarding house to get wood and was found dead several days later. Authorities ruled the cause to be natural.
