Edward was the only son of William and Rachel Dilworth Green. He was born on his parents small farm in Little Britain Township located a short distance east of Little Britain Presbyterian Church. His parents were married about 1755 in Lancaster County, PA. In addition to Edward, they also had two daughters Jane and Francis (m. George Dilworth in N.C.). William became ill in December 1763 and died at an early age leaving Rachel a young widow with three small children. Rachel's father Benjamin Dilworth lived on an adjoining farm and surely helped watch over them. In his will, William mentioned, along with Rachel and children, his mother and his uncle Anthony Dilworth who was named the administrator of the estate. William's father was Edward Green 1699-1757 (#151913804) of Little Britain. This Edward Green also had a daughter Elizabeth who was married to James Culley who witnessed William's will. Their name is also found spelled as McCulley at times.

In 1770 Rachel sold the small Little Britain farm in accordance to her husband's will when she married her second husband Samuel Wilson. The family moved south and resettled along Rose Creek in NE Guilford County, N.C. not far from her sister Elenor Dilworth Cross and other members of the Dilworth family. Rachel had two sons with Samuel Wilson. Robert (1773-1850)(#76094248) and Benjamin Wilson (1774-1856)(#43185517). Samuel died about 1781 as Rachel is listed in land records as a widow. It is uncertain when Rachel died. For some inexplicable reason those who lived along Rose Creek were not listed in the 1790 census and she is not listed in the 1800 census. Edward, Robert and Benjamin continued to live on the Rose Creek property until Edward purchased their share in 1797 for $150.

Edward was married to Margaret Warnock in Guilford County in 1790. They had four sons, James, William, George D. and Edward Jr. and four daughters, Rachel, Mary, Jane and Margaret. Margaret Warnock was the daughter of James Warnock and grew up on her father's farm near Edward's family. Her sister Jane married Edward's half brother Benjamin Wilson. Edward and Margaret acquired several hundred acres in the area near Rose Creek and family members continue to live nearby still.

They were long time members of Haw River Presbyterian Church where several family members are buried.
