Anne Duke Futch
Birth: 1737
New Hanover County
North Carolina, USA
Death: 1835
Bulloch County
Georgia, USA

Anne Duke(s) Futch was born about 1737 or later in New Hanover County, North Carolina, the daughter of John Duke, Jr. (1724-1755) and Mary Myrick Duke (1727-1745). She married Onesimus Futch, Sr. about 1756 in North Carolina, and they had nine children: Onesimus Futch, Jr., John Futch, Solomon Futch, Sr., Aletha Elizabeth "Celety" Futch Lewis, Thomas Futch, Jacob Futch, Isaac Futch, Martin Futch, and James Futch. Her husband Onesimus was a Revolutionary War veteran from South Carolina. The Futch family had lands that straddled the Bryan and Bulloch County line in Georgia. She died about 1835 at about age 98 in Bulloch County, Georgia Georgia and is probably buried in the old Futch Family Cemetery, now underwater in Bulloch Bay, in Bulloch County.

The late Futch family genealogist John Wise writes that the old Futch Family Cemetery is located "east of Statesborough (not Statesboro), in the lower southeast 'Bay Area' of Bulloch County, Georgia. DAR Revolutionary Soldier markers were placed on the graves of Onesimus and his sons in July of 1918. Unfortunately, this family plantation cemetery was later destroyed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers during a 1941-1943 area drainage project. The site of that old Futch Family Cemetery is said to now be underwater, near the eastern bank of Bulloch Bay in lower southeast Bulloch County, Georgia. It is unknown if any remains and/or gravestones were relocated from this old family cemetery before it was destroyed."

Thanks so much to all the Futch family genealogists for much of this information and especially to John Wise and Alfred Chassereau. Thanks to "VikSue1" for information on Anne's parents. Any errors, however, are mine alone. Please go to the "edit" link on this site with any corrections or additions.
