Susan Moody, age 56, 30 Flaxman Cove, Sylva, N.C., died Wednesday, March 24, 2010, at home in Sylva. Susan was born August 22, 1953, in Savannah, Ga. She was a native of Statesboro, Ga., and had been a resident of Sylva for the past eight years. She is the daughter of the late Fred Futch and the late Rosemetta (Laffet) Futch. She married Herman Talmadge Moody.
She was employed by Cherokee Boys Club as an archivist, where she had worked for the past four years. Prior to this job, she worked at the Zachary-Tolbert House in Cashiers as a collections management assistant, and at Western Carolina University in various archivist positions. Susan obtained her Bachelor's degree in Anthropology from Georgia Southern University and her Master's degree in American History from Western Carolina University. She was a member of the Cashiers Historical Society, a member of the American Red Cross and on the board of Habitat for Humanity.
She is survived by her husband, Herman Talmadge Moody; two sons, Gary William Moody Sr. of Statesboro, Ga., and Herman Talmadge Moody Jr. also of Statesboro; one sister, Juleta Brannan of Chucky, Tenn.; and six grandchildren.
The funeral service will be at 2 p.m. on Sunday, March 28, at the DeLoach Primitive Baptist Church in Statesboro. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
