Dorothy Eleanor Busch, age 91 of Lake Station, went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, January 3, 2010. Dorothy was a loving and devoted wife to Grant K. Busch (preceded in death in 1990) for 47 years . She is survived by her loving children: Debbie Shurr of Hobart and James G. Busch (Jackie) Morse) of Lake Station; grandchildren: Tim (Stacey) Shurr of Valparaiso, Tina (Mike) Clindaniel of Kouts and Dan (Amber) Shurr of Valparaiso; great grandchildren: Shelby and Kaylee Clindaniel, Max and Aiden Shurr; brothers: Edward and Robert Funke of Portage; devoted niece and nephew: Leona and Dick Keel. Dorothy was born September 5, 1918 to Frederick and Ethel Funke in Chicago, IL and came to Indiana at the age of six months. She graduated from the Garyton School System which is now Portage. Dorothy became a nanny for the Bowers family in Miller, then worked as a clerk at Miller Drugs. Later, she worked at Gordon's in downtown Gary and eventually became one of the girls in the mill "The Rosie Rivetors" and flipped tin at the U.S. Steel Tin Mill during the war. Preceded in death by her parents; husband; brothers: Fred and Ken Funke; sisters: Mary Nelson and Hazel Smock; sisters-in-law: Carole Funke, Betty Funke and Helen Funke; brothers-in-law: Art Nelson and Jake Smock. Dorothy is survived by many nieces and nephews, and loving friends at Hope Lutheran Church where she had been a member since the late 40's. She was a member of the Ladies Craft Circle and a 60 year member of O.E.S. #314. Dorothy was a devoted and loving mother to her family and church. She is now at peace with God. She will be missed by all who knew her. Special thanks to Dale Shurr, Linda Teets, Irvin Carstenson and Trina Barendola for all the happiness they brought to our mom. Also to all the 'B' Wing staff at Fountain View for their devotion and love to Dorothy. Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. from the Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church, 6322 Portage Ave., Portage, IN with Pastor Lepak officiating. Burial will follow at McCool Cemetery. Friends are invited to meet with the family on Wednesday from 2:00-8:00 p.m. at the Kraft Funeral Services and Crematory, 370 N. County Line Road, Hobart, IN and on Thursday morning from 10:00-11:00 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Hope Lutheran Church.
