The daughter of George G. Funk and Nellie Johnson, Zola was married to Purl Smith. They were the parents of 10 children.
At the time of her death, Zola was 70 years, 4 months and 4 days old. She was survived by her husband; 5 daughters; 5 sons; 19 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Elizabeth Gillespie of Grafton, and Pauline Wiener of Jerseyville; and 2 brothers, Murl Funk of Glen Carbon, and John Funk of Florida.
In addition to her parents, Zola was preceded in death by 1 sister and 5 brothers. Her brother, Hurley, was killed in action during World War II.
Visitation was held after 4:30 p.m. on 11 May 1983 at Hanks Funeral Home in Hardin. Funeral services were conducted at 1:30 p.m. the following afternoon at the Batchtown Methodist Church.
The family requested that memorials, if desired, be made to the Diabetes Foundation.
