MARBLEHEAD - Ruth I. (Wendt) Fullerton-Best, 79, of Marblehead, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2003, in the Hospice Unit of Salem Hospital. She was the wife of the late Thomas Fullerton, Jr. and the late Leonard Best.
Born in Breslau, Germany, on Nov. 17, 1924, she was the daughter of the late Helen Wendt. She was raised in Germany and trained as a ballet dancer and performed professionally for the City Ballet of Breslau.
During this time, she met her first husband, Thomas Fullerton Jr. and they were married in Germany in 1952. Throughout her husband's military career, she traveled to the United States, France and Japan. Upon his retirement, the couple settled in Marblehead and raised a family. Following the death of her first husband, she married Leonard Best in 1989, with whom she enjoyed traveling to New Hampshire and Canada.
Mrs. Fullerton-Best worked for many years at the National Grand Bank in Marblehead. In addition to traveling, she enjoyed bowling and was involved in many leagues. She was active with the National Association of Federal Employees and served as treasurer for several years. She also was a member of the VFW Women's Auxiliary in Marblehead.
She is survived by two sons, Thomas Fullerton III and his wife, Karen, of Raymond, N.H., and their family, Gregory Maffei Jr., Lisa Maffei, Abigail, Michael, and Gwendolyn Byors, and Erin Maffei; and Richard Fullerton of New Orleans.
