She was the daughter of President Charles Ashmead Schaeffer of the State University of Iowa and former Dean of Cornell University in Ithaca, New York. Her maternal grandfather, George Washington Schuyler, was the first Treasurer and founder of the Cornell University. He was a descendant of Philip Pieterse Van Schuyler, Revolutionary general, early United States Senator and political associate of Alexander Hamilton.

Private funeral services will be held at Oak Hill Cemetery Chapel, 30th and R Streets Northwest on Tuesday, May 1 at 2PM. Interment Oak Hill Cemetery.
