While one existing record shows he is buried in this grave, there had to be at least one detailed record which caused the quartermaster to change the stone. It may be that he showed up at a reunion, there may have been a fellow solider give testimony he died elsewhere at a later date, there might have been a pension application filed by him, etc. As the Andersonville record notes he is "Reported to have died at Andersonville" and explains when it was changed the SUVCW has elected to leave this memorial as an Unknown at present.
