Reported to be the first male child of English descent born in North Carolina.
His grave was reported to be bricked up with English brick and such a grave was found in Fulford Cemetery in 1971 when the historical society did a census. There is a bricked grave there now but not sure it is the same one.
"Virginia Dare first-born offspring of English parents in this western world." Another sentence, same reference, states that a J. T. Albritton wrote: "First male child of English descent was John Fulford born 1629, and died 1723. He was born in Carteret County, and his grave is about 8 miles from Beaufort."

"The First White-Male Child in Eastern Carolina."
"We have among us a lineal descendant of the first white male child ever born in Eastern North Carolina. That child was John Fulford. He was born in Carteret county of English parents in 1630 and died in 1723. He was buried at the Straits, Carteret county, about 8 miles east of Beaufort where his grave may be seen to this day. It is bricked up with English brick. This Mr. Fulford was the great-great-grandfather of our townsman Mr. Stephen Fulford."
