Nokomis, Jan. 15 - Melvin Fries, 21, nephew of J.J. Fries, superintendent of Nokomis mine No. 10, was fatally injured while at work in the mine this afternoon. He was struck by a mine motor and sustained injuries which caused his death several hours later. His home was in Carlinville.

Carlinville, Jan. 16 - The remains of Melvin J. Fries were brought to this city this morning and taken to the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. D.G. Fries, 616 Sumner street. They were brought by the father, who worked in the same mine at Nokomis where the lad lost his life yesterday.
It is stated the father came out of the mine in the same cage and did not know the injured boy was his son until he reached the top.
Another son of Mr. Fries lost a hand in this mine last year.
The funeral will be held at 2 o'clock Sunday afternoon at the family home.
Interment will be made in Mayfield Memorial park.
