Betty Lee French, 79 of Notus, passed away Saturday, Nov. 20, 2010, at a local care center with her family by her side. Cremation was handled under the care of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell. Graveside services will be held in the spring. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family through their online tribute page at
Betty was born the first of three children on Jan. 19, 1931, in West Plains, Mo., to Lee and Levetra Upshaw. She was raised in Missouri until her family moved to Caldwell in 1944.
She attended Washington and Caldwell High Schools. Betty married Alton Wayne Sanders in 1947 and had two children, Gail and Bob Sanders.
They later divorced and Betty married Richard French in 1951. To this union their son, Rick, was born. The family lived in Nyssa, Ore., for 15 years before moving to Notus where they resided for 43 years.
Betty worked for Caldwell Memorial Hospital, now West Valley Medical Center, for 22 years. This was a job she enjoyed very much. She loved the family camping trips and traveling with her brothers and their wives. Betty's family was her greatest joy. She loved family gatherings; taking the grandchildren camping at Clear Creek when they were young, roasting hot dogs in the backyard, and especially the annual Christmas Eve family gathering.
Betty was a great cook, taking after her mother. We will all miss these special times with her and Rich.
Betty is survived by her children, Gail (Henry) Farrow of Fruitland, and Rick French of Caldwell; her daughter-in-law, Collette Sanders of Caldwell; five grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and two brothers, James Upshaw of Ogden, Utah and Royse Upshaw of Winnemucca, Nev.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Richard; her son, Bob Sanders; her son-in-law, Tom Tucker; her granddaughter, Carrie French; her in-laws, Archie and Clariece Lightfoot; and brother-in-law, Wardith French.
Betty, we will miss you dearly.
