Born In Oldenburg, Germany, son of Carl & Elizabeth Freking. In 1875 he immediately came to Dubuque Co. and worked for a time as a farm hand & then farmed on rental property in Delaware Co. for 7 yrs. He returned to DBQ Co. and purchased a trust of 160 acres. He served on the school board and as president of the New Vienna Bank and as a member of the Roman Catholic Mutual protective Assoc.
He married twice, first to Helena Klas, who died in 1888, leaving two daughters, Frances, who married Clemens Luensman, and Elenora, who married Henry Luensman. On Oct 3, he married Miss Frances Oberbroeckling. Children: Frank; Mary; Martha; Annie; Leonetta and Catherine.
