Lieutenant of the Carabinieri. At the end of the 60s he began his military career in the Carabinieri Corps in the 1st Battalion of the Carabinieri Regiment "Tuscania", which at that time was part of the Folgore Paratroopers Brigade. In the 1970s he was one of the founders and later commander of the Gruppo di Intervento Speciale, an elite tactical counter-terrorism unit within the Italian Carabinieri military police. In 2003, he participated in Operation Ancient Babylon in Iraq with the rank of primo maresciallo luogotenente. On November 12 of the same year, a few days before his return to Italy, he was one of the victims of the suicide bombing that killed 19 Italians (17 soldiers and 2 civilians) and 9 Iraqis.
