Early Life: Florence was born on December 4, 1925, in Safford, Arizona, to Charles Edward and Vesta Skaggs Freestone. She was raised in Safford and Mesa, along with her brothers, James and Lloyd, and her sister, Ruth Freestone Brinton.
Life's Work/Service/Interests: Following graduation from Mesa Union High School and St. Joseph's School of Nursing in Phoenix, she married Robert George Austin in 1946. From this union came five children. At age 76, Florence climbed Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. Florence Freestone Austin passed away on January 11, 2010, in her home in Stockton, California. She was 84.
