William M. Freeman was the first Sheriff of Little River County (1867) and on his plantation (1 and 1/2 miles South of Alleene) built the County's first Jail and Court Room, erected a School and Church and established the Freeman Cemetery. He was County Judge in 1883 and Justice of the Peace in 1885.
