Grace Dorothy Fleck, 87, of Palm Desert, California, passed away in the early evening hours of March 25, 2011 at Eisenhower Medical Center.
Born January 27, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan to Allen and Anna Frederick, she was raised in Michigan and in her late teens moved to Illinois with her father and sister Pearl to work in a plant making torpedoes for WWII.
In the early fifties, she moved to California. Grace worked as an Office Manager in Alhambra, California for over thirty years; volunteered as a Candy Striper and served on the Volunteer Board at Garfield Hospital in Monterey Park. She was a member of the Rancho Mirage Woman's Club.
Grace enjoyed traveling and visited many places around the world. She frequently visited Melbourne, Australia to see her daughter and son-in-law. Amongst her other interests were crossword puzzles and Sudoku. She kept abreast of current events and enjoyed talking about them. And she had a keen interest in fine dining.
Her only child, Hope Susan Lapham, whom she called "Suzie"; husband, Frank Fleck; son-in-law, Alan Lapham; step-son, Frank Fleck Jr.; and siblings, Claire Jacobson of Michigan, Pearl Yeager, Peggy Verstat, and Bob Frederick of Illinois, survive her. Her brothers and sister, Charlie Frederick of Florida, Allen "Sonny" Frederick of Wisconsin, and Florence Morrison of Illinois preceded Grace in death.
Funeral Services will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 31, 2011 in the Ramon Chapel at Forest Lawn Mortuary, 69855 East Ramon Road, Cathedral City.
