Dorothy Frederick Ball, 80, of Bentleyville, died Tuesday, July 20, 2004, in Presbyterian Senior Care, Washington, after a lengthy illness. She was born August 19, 1923, in Washington, a daughter of George and Hanna Davis Frederick.

Mrs. Ball was a 1941 graduate of Ellsworth High School, where she had been class president and was ranked third in her class. While in school, she was a member of glee club, the debate team, the newspaper staff and the accompanied musician program.

Following graduation, she attended Penn Commercial Business School and became a secretary.

In 1967, she graduated from California State College in California with a bachelor's degree in education, and in 1968 she received her master's degree from the same institution.

She taught third grade in Ringgold School District for more than 14 years.

She was a lifelong member of Bentleyville Presbyterian Church, where she taught Sunday school and vacation Bible school, directed the choir and was as an organist for 15 years. She also served as an elder and deaconess, and was a member of the women's association.

She was an avid musician who began playing the organ at Ellsworth Presbyterian Church when she was 12. She taught many youths in her community to play the piano.

On January 1, 1943, she married Dr. Arthur L. Ball, who died Feb.16, 1992. Deceased , in addition to her husband, are her stepmother, Amanda Frederick; and two brothers, Eugene and Robert Frederick.
