Evelyn F. (Frate) Arcari, 90, of 57 Williams Street, Plainville, passed away peacefully on Friday, (August 28, 2009). She is now reunited with her beloved husband, Sebastian L. Arcari, who predeceased her in 2000.

Born in Berlin on December 1, 1918, she was the daughter of the late Dominick and Stella (Fontana) Frate.

Evelyn grew up in Milldale and graduated Valedictorian from Lewis High School Southington High in 1936. Following her graduation, she received her Associate Degree from Larson Junior College (Quinnipiac University).

She began her career as a secretary at General Electric in Plainville until April 1942. Evelyn met and married the love of her life Sebastian on April 23, 1942. Together they raised a family and she spent most of her time at home until the 1950's. She had been a Plainville resident since 1948.

As their children grew up, she stepped back into her secretarial duties working for the next 23 years as the school secretary for Plainville Junior High School. There she also was able to care and counsel so many students who needed a friend or a shoulder to lean on. Outside of the office, she was a member of the Plainville Athletic Backers Club for 15 years, serving as a secretary for several of those years.

Most importantly, Evelyn lived for her family especially her grandchildren. She took great joy when they were young playing croquet and other games with them in the backyard. Many hours were spent attending the various activities they were involved in from recreational leagues to high school sports. Evelyn served as a role model throughout their formative years just as she had done for her two children. She touched the lives of so many and will dearly be missed by all who knew her.

She leaves her children, Thomas Arcari, Sr. and his wife, Margaret of Plainville; Laura Amara and her husband, Lawrence of Bristol; her grandchildren, Thomas Arcari, II of Durham; Jill Arcari-Couture and her husband, Christopher of Plainville; Kim Arcari of Plainville; Joel Arcari of Groton; Jonathon McMahon of Meriden; David McMahon of Caribou, ME; Peter Amara and his wife, Marisa of West Haven; David Amara and his wife, Sheri of Bristol; Alexandra Kiniry and her husband, Patrick of Plainville; 16 great-grandchildren; a brother, Lawrence Frate and his wife, Marge of DuPont, WA; along with several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her brother, Charles Frate.

Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 at 9 a.m. from Bailey Funeral Home, 48 Broad Street, Plainville, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church.
Burial will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery, Plainville.
Family and friends may gather on Monday, August 31, 2009 from 4-7 p.m. at the Funeral Home.
