Elizabeth Louise Francis Durant, 93, of the 2900 block of Archer's Mill Road, departed this life July 21, 2002. Mrs. Durant was born in Charleston, S.C., May 9, 1909, to the late Charles A. and Mina L. Francis. She moved to the Tidewater area as a child and was an Episcopalian. She was the widow of Paul Leigh Durant, retired U.S. Navy.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen L. Brothers of Virginia Beach and Shirley D. Starke of Suffolk; three grandchildren, Kimberly Mountain and husband Robert of Virginia Beach, Kevin Starke and wife Kendra of Suffolk and Keith Starke and wife Emily of Wake Forest, N.C.; four great-grandchildren, Shelby and Connor Mountain, Gabrielle Starke and Madylin Starke; a brother, Charles A. Francis of Chesapeake; a loving and devoted son-in-law, Robert Starke; two nieces and many concerned friends and family who offered and provided moral support and assistance during her long home-confinement following a stroke in 1986.
"Miz D", as she was affectionately called, will always be remembered for the generosity she and her late husband, Paul, showed those who entered their home.
The family will receive visitors at Altmeyer Funeral Home, Virginia Beach Chapel, Wednesday from 7 to 9 p.m. A graveside service will be held Thursday at Forest Lawn Cemetery, by the Rev. John Burley of Galilee Episcopal Church, Virginia Beach.
